VIDEO
3840 x 2160 UHD frame size (minimum)*
25fps progressive scan (only)
16:9 full-frame active picture (no letterboxing/pillarboxing/scope ratios)
4:2:2 chroma sampling (minimum)
10-bit colour (minimum)
1:1 pixel aspect ratio
Canon C-Log, Sony S-Log, Arri Log-C, DJI D-Log gamma profile or camera equivalent, where possible
'Time of day', free-running timecode embedded in each video file (HH:MM:SS:FF)
Constant frame rate recording (no variable frame rate)
When recording high-speed footage ('overcranking') this must be in multiples of the base frame rate; e.g. 25fps > 50fps, 75fps, 100fps
SOUND
Linear PCM, Polyphonic, Broadcast Wave (B-WAV) files
24bit
48kHz
External Sound Recording devices and/or camera file embedded audio (see below)
External sound devices should be timecode locked ('jam-synced') to all camera systems, where possible
Every camera recording must start with a clear audio/visual sync mark
When an external sound device is in use, cameras should capture indicative, guide (or "scratch") quality audio, for sync reference, where possible.
Timebase of all externally recorded audio files must match cameras (i.e. 25fps)
NAMING
Please use camera/sound recorder default conventions, ensuring that:
Date is present and correct in all file names and sound folders
All individual files are uniquely named, and camera 'reel' or clip indexes are not repeated
In camera systems that repeat generic naming sequences (e.g. iPhone, GoPro, DJI Drone, Sony FX3), the shooting date in format YYMMDD should be added as a prefix.
*In some instances, with the prior approval of WildBear Head Of Post and Production, filming in 1920x1080p HD may be permissible for high-volume programs (e.g. observational or reality). All other parameters listed above still apply when filming in 1080pHD.
